Rick Weiland raised around $204,000 in the first quarter of 2014, the Democrat's best fundraising performance since entering the race in May of 2013, though still far short of Republican frontrunner Mike Rounds' pace.

That's according to the Associated Press, which says Weiland spent $103,000 and has $485,000 in the bank -- and debt of $109,000.

Previously, Weiland had raised $160,000, $169,000 and $105,000. He also loaned himself $100,000, meaning that $9,000 of debt is new.

Weiland joins Mike Rounds and Annette Bosworth in having their best fundraising quarters to date in January through March -- not unexpected as the election draws closer. Meanwhile Stace Nelson and Larry Rhoden each had their worst quarter to date, during a time when both were serving in the state Legislature. Jason Ravnsborg and Larry Pressler each had minimal fundraising with significant loans from themselves during their first full fundraising quarter.
