Letter: Payday loans have been a good resource

Cherie Grant
Sioux Falls

I am very disappointed and distraught over Initiated Measure 21 being passed. Unfortunately, this leaves no option for people like me to get a loan for unexpected expenses. I do not have family or friends whom can loan me the money and after checking with all of the banks in Sioux Falls, I have found that I cannot get a loan from any bank in town either, because my credit is poor.

I utilized a local payday lender to help me when my pet became ill and he needed surgery. Without their assistance, I would have had to kill my cat.

It is very disturbing to me that other people think they need to protect me from a payday lender. I am capable of making my own decisions and can determine if I want to take a higher interest loan from a lender when needed.

I have always had a positive experience with my lender and do not know what I will do in the future if something else comes up unexpectedly. I pray that my cat does not have future issues that require me to kill him due to my inability to obtain financing in South Dakota.
