South Dakota State University police have made an arrest after a sexual assault was reported in a residence hall.

A female victim reported the assault to police early Sunday, said Don Challis, the university's vice president for safety and security.

The suspect was arrested. University police will continue investigating the incident.

A note sent to SDSU staff Monday said the victim and suspect knew each other. Challis could not say whether they were both university students.

Pierson Residence Hall, where the assault took place, typically houses freshmen and sophomores, according to the SDSU website.
