SDSU wrestling recruit Anthony Cefolo has won two New Jersey state titles.

Here's the latest from the old notebook:

The SDSU wrestling program seems to be building another touted recruiting class – it has two of the top 100 recruits in the country for 2015, according to D1CollegeWrestling.net. Anthony Cefolo, a 125-pounder from Hanover Park, N.J., is No. 42 overall and Vermillion 174-pounder Brett Bye is No. 51.
Cefolo committed last week along with reigning South Dakota champ Kasey Klapprodt of Rapid City Stevens. The 160-pound Klapprodt has all sorts of athleticism in his blood as his brother, Kris, currently wrestles for Iowa; his dad, Kevin, lettered in football at SDSU; and his mom, the former Michele Greene, played basketball and softball for the Jacks. Also, Klapprodt said that a phone conversation with SDSU redshirt freshman Nate Rotert of Spearfish proved influential.
As for Cefolo, he said that Jacks coach Chris Bono was the first at the Division I level to take notice of him, dating back more than a year ago. That's how he wound up choosing SDSU after getting offers from and taking visits to the likes of Iowa (yes, that Iowa), Purdue, Ohio, Bloomsburg and Rider.
"I think there's great things happening there – there's a lot of support," said Cefolo, who took second at junior nationals this summer in Greco and third in freestyle. "I feel (Bono) could get me to the next level."

The SDSU golf teams wrapped the fall portion of the season last week. The women fared relatively well in the first half-campaign under new director of golf Casey VanDamme, ranking No. 143 in NCAA Division I in the Golfweek stats. That includes a 1-6 mark against the top 100.
The SDSU men are ranked 251stand are 0-6 against the top 100.

The SDSU baseball team also recently wrapped its fall season. Coach Dave Schrage was encouraged by the offensive strides that were made; that's been a point of emphasis considering the Jacks return virtually all of their top arms from last year.
He's also high on the newcomers – true freshman Tony Kjolsing hit three homers during the practice season – and is of the opinion that junior outfielder Zach Coppola and sophomore infielder Matt Johnson are primed to take big steps forward in the spring.
The Jacks know what the spring will look like as their 2015 slate has been released. Once again, Sioux Falls will get in on the action as SDSU will face Creighton at Sioux Falls Stadium on April 29 before hosting the Summit League tournament there May 20-23.
