A De Smet man who paid $1 million for sex with an exotic dancer between 2005 and 2008 was among more than a dozen men arrested this week in a Sioux City prostitution sting.

David Karlen, 54, has been charged with soliciting a prostitute. KCAU-TV in Sioux City reports that Karlen was among 15 arrested in a two-night sting conducted by the Sioux City Police Department.

Karlen was a star witness in a federal trial last year of Veronica Fairchild, an exotic dancer who was accused of failing to pay taxes on money she earned dancing and for performing sex acts on Karlen. Fairchild, of Canistota, owned the Boji Nites strip club in Okoboji, Iowa.

Fairchild was ultimately sentenced to almost three years in prison and ordered to pay $214,606 in back taxes.
