A Sioux Falls teenager admitted to police that he was robbed while trying to buy drugs from a dealer near the Empire Mall Monday.

The victim, 18, called police about 4:30 p.m. to report a robbery. Police spokesman Sam Clemens said the teen told officers he was robbed at gunpoint by a couple of men who had given him a ride to the mall. But Clemens said police became suspicious when the teen's story didn't add up.

Further questioning revealed the teenager had given a man at least $1,000 in exchange for marijuana, but the man left without any drugs, Clemens said.

The teenager was able to give the name of the dealer. He has not yet been found.

Clemens said the Minnehaha County State's Attorney's office will decide if the teenager will face any charges.
