SDSU made a series of offseason upgrades to its baseball stadium.

Take your medicine ... or something:

The SDSU soccer team on Sunday beat Iowa State 2-1 in Ames to secure its first win over a power conference foe since 2010. That also was against the Cyclones and also by a 2-1 margin – except in Sioux Falls (because of wet field conditions in Brookings). In between, the Jacks dropped nine in a row against those squads.
Iowa State came in at 6-3-0 and ranked 10th in the region.
"Our midfield's definitely getting stronger each and every game," SDSU coach Lang Wedemeyer said. "It was great to see (freshman) Tori (Poole) get the game winner. She's been doing very well and getting a lot of minutes."

The SDSU baseball program on Saturday held a dedication for the new entry arch, batters eye, windscreen, landscaping and outfield fencing at Erv Huether Field. The upgrades came about through a series of donations. Roughly 100 people attended, and the team scrimmaged at the end.

A couple of former SDSU pitchers have completed their sophomore seasons as pros. RHP Layne Somsen of the Cincinnati Reds organization split time between Class A Dayton and Class A Advanced Bakersfield. His totals: 3-3 with 3 saves and a 3.05 ERA over 59 innings. Also, he struck out 64 and walked 20, limiting hitters to a .208 average.
RHP Stephen Bougher of Gary SouthShore in the American Association made 23 starts, logging 122 innings and going 8-7 with a 4.79 ERA. As a rookie in Lincoln, he went 3-8 with a 3.90 ERA.

In the off chance that you're looking for something to do Thursday afternoon, I'll be a part of a panel that takes a look at the first 10 years of NCAA Division I sports in South Dakota. The event is part of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and will be held from 3-5 p.m. in Avera Hall at the University Center.
It's free and open to the public. Other speakers will include SDSU athletic director Justin Sell, University of South Dakota athletic director David Herbster and Teri Ellis-Schmidt of the Sioux Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau.
