Daktronics to be featured on 'CBS Sunday Morning'

The giant video displays designed and manufactured by Brookings-based Daktronics Inc. will be featured on "CBS Sunday Morning" this weekend ahead of the Super Bowl.

CBS News national correspondent Lee Cowan and a film crew spent three days in Brookings last November filming the story of Daktronics and the company's quest to build the biggest and most vivid video displays in football.

According to Daktronics, the segment focuses on co-founders Al Kurtenbach and Duane Sander, two South Dakota State University engineering professors who started the business hoping to give their students a place to work close to home.

The company started in 1968 and has been building video displays for professional football since the 1990s. Daktronics scoreboards can be found in many professional stadiums, including the largest display in the world for the Jacksonville Jaguars' EverBank Field in Florida.

"The recognition from the 'CBS Sunday Morning' broadcast and The New York Times article last summer is a result of great effort by employees over the past decades and is to be treasured by all employees," Kurtenbach said. "Moreover it creates an opportunity for us to build on and create growth into the future."

Daktronics equipment also will be on display at the University of Phoenix stadium, which is hosting the Super Bowl. The company has installed 18 individual LED video displays for the Arizona Cardinals since 2006.

Two new displays were installed in the south end zone for the big game.

The upgrades to their video display system this season are sure to provide an extra level of excitement at the game on Sunday."

The episode on CBS will air at 8 a.m. Sunday. After the broadcast, it will be available for viewing at www.cbsnews.com/sunday-morning.
