Last one of these until college football camp starts ...

The South Dakota State tennis teams added four recruits last week – all imports. Two are from Brazil plus one from England and Venezuela. Coach Michael Engdahl expects all four to contend to make the lineup, adding more depth with just one starter lost.
Meanwhile, patterns within patterns are emerging as the Jacks continue to become more competitive in the Summit League and load up on internationals.
Engdahl said that the school's engineering program is key in attracting Brazilians. Everybody on the roster from that country is going into engineering. Also, one of the newcomers sought out SDSU and another comes from a family that's well versed in the NCAA process – both proved to be fits.

SDSU volleyball verbal Taylor Reiss can play a little basketball, too. The 5-foot-10 Minneota senior is ranked No. 13 in Minnesota in her class by GPrep.net. She lead her team to a Class 1A state title as a sophomore and a runner-up finish as a junior.
Meanwhile, No. 2-ranked Minnesota senior Madison Guebert actually will play basketball for the Jacks. She helped North Tartan to a 10-0 mark in the Elite Youth Basketball League this summer, putting up 11.0 points and 2.6 boards per game and shooting 49.1 percent from 3-point range. The club is competing at Nike Nationals this week.

Former Jacks and Yankton High pitcher Layne Somsen hasn't pitched for Class A advanced Bakersfield since June 20 due to a left-knee issue, according to his father, Dan. However, there isn't any structural damage and Somsen hopes to get activated this week.

SDSU on Monday landed its sixth known verbal commitment for football: Tight end Sam Stackman of Andover, Minn. The 6-3, 225-pounder made 17 catches for 274 yards with two scores last season as a junior.
Stackman said he also had an offer from North Dakota and NCAA Division II Concordia-St. Paul. He chose SDSU because it felt like the right fit for him and his family. It didn't hurt that the Jacks have two other recent Andover offensive standouts: receiver Jason Schneider and quarterback Tyler Finnes.
Here is his junior highlight reel.
