Albrecht: Thanksgiving Argus Leader available today

We are stuffed!

I know what you are thinking; he couldn’t even wait until Thanksgiving Day to indulge. While it's possible that I may overeat on Thursday, my reference is to the largest Argus Leader newspaper of the year – the Thanksgiving Day edition.

Over the years the Thanksgiving Day edition has become a staple of holiday content and shopping values, including coupons and special deals from national and local retailers.

This year is no different.

In fact, the paper that hits the stands beginning Wednesday afternoon will weigh up to 5.2 pounds. The actual girth of your paper depends on where you live or buy the paper because advertisers sometimes want to "zone" their sales flyers to specific locations.

And yes, I did say afternoon, as in Wednesday afternoon.

We are expanding the number of early pick-up options of the holiday paper this year and are making it available earlier than ever before.

By working with our friends at Hy-Vee, Lewis Drug and Get-N-Go we will have early delivery of the Thanksgiving Day paper in their Sioux Falls locations. You can pick up your Argus Leader on the way home from work or when you are getting those last-minute items for your weekend. Delivery will start mid-afternoon and should be completed to all stores by 4:30 p.m.

I want to thank all the readers who over the years devoured the Thanksgiving Day Argus Leader. You've not only increased the number of people who read that day's edition but also shop at our advertisers and support them as well. I also want to thank the Argus Leader team that planned and worked hard to bring this super-sized edition to you.

Here are some facts and figures on the Thanksgiving edition:

• We'll print about 58,500 copies. (A normal Thursday edition is about 28,000.)
• Each copy will weigh between 4-5 pounds.
• That’s about 131 tons of product when including the Argus Leader and all the sales flyers .
• Assembling the sales flyers into packages began Friday, Nov. 6.
• About 32 people are hand-stuffing all the sections into the main paper for single-copy sales. The size of the package is too large for our inserting machines to handle.
• There are up to 61 sales flyers in the paper.
• We will drive roughly 5,000 miles delivering the paper.
• We will make about 25,520 delivery stops.
• Some content highlights include the traditional high school football Elite 45, including the team captain for the player of the year; a giant cross-word puzzle to help fill some family time; a tale from our columnist Stu Whitney that will warm your heart; and the announcement of the recipient of this year's Lend-a-Hand campaign.
