On Wednesday, independent gubernatorial candidate Mike Myers's nominating petitions were approved by Secretary of State Jason Gant, putting Myers on the November ballot along with the Democratic and Republican nominees.

That's not that unusual.

What was unusual was how Myers celebrated when he heard the good news.

During his joint press conference with Lora Hubbel today Myers was told by a supporter in the room that his nominating signatures were on the verge of being approved by Secretary of State Jason Gant.

He immediately whooped with joy climbed onto a table in the Sioux Falls Public Library meeting room and did 20 pushups in front of around two dozen citizens and reporters.

"God, that makes me feel good," Myers exclaimed upon being told the news. He moved toward the table, climbed on and began the push-ups. "Jeepers, God, alright. One, two, three..."

I was, like everyone else there, a little taken aback, but I got video of most of the impromptu exercise routine:

This isn't the first time Myers has used push-ups at a campaign event. Unveiling his running mate in January, Myers similarly dropped and gave the audience 20, as a way to show that he's still spry and healthy at 77.

After his push-ups Wednesday, he mentioned that as a college professor he used to make his class do push-ups at the start of class.
