Applications being accepted for David Kranz journalism scholarship

South Dakota students are eligible to receive a $2,000 scholarship honoring long-time South Dakota journalist David Kranz.

The David Kranz-Argus Leader Media Journalism Scholarship will be presented to a South Dakota student who is studying journalism. The $2,000 award honors reporter, editor and political columnist David Kranz, who retired from the Argus Leader in 2010 after more than 40 years in the newspaper business.

"One of David's true passions was working with journalism students. He enjoyed mentoring them in their reporting and writing endeavors," said Maricarrol Kueter, Argus Leader executive editor. "This is a great vehicle to recognize and continue those efforts."

To be eligible, a student must have completed at least one year in a journalism training program at a South Dakota college.
