A wiener dog helped bring attention to a fire engulfed deck at 2023 S. Grange Avenue Saturday morning in Sioux Falls.

"I woke up to my dog biting me. He was mad I wouldn't wake up," said neighbor Susan Frey, who first reported the fire.

She could see large flames around 8:30 a.m. from her home on S. Euclid Avenue.

"I heard a loud rain-like sound, looked out my back window and saw the neighbors porch completely engulfed in flames."

While on the phone with emergency management, she heard an explosion, which she believed to be a propane tank.

Fire and smoke then spread from the deck into the attic space of the house, causing heavy damage according to a Sioux Falls Fire Rescue press release.

The fire was under control within 25 minutes and completely extinguished within an hour.

Fire Rescue responded with five fire trucks, three support vehicles and 20 firefighters.

The cause is not immediately known as the homeowner was at work during the time of the blaze. No injuries have been reported.
