A Minnesota man was sentenced to more than three years in federal prison after admitting to forcing a woman into prostitution in Sioux Falls.

David Eugene Nance, 31, was given a 37-month sentence on charges of transporting for prostitution after taking a plea deal to avoid a federal sex-trafficking charge.

His co-defendant, Ashley Crayton, took a similar deal in late May.

Nance and Crayton admitted to driving a 33-year-old woman from Minnesota to Sioux Falls on Aug. 29, 2014, to have her sell sex out of a hotel room. An ad was placed on Backpage.com that was answered by several men, according to police.

A hotel employee called police after seeing multiple men entering and leaving the room.

Detectives monitored the foot traffic, and Paul Christopher Broesder, 34, of Iowa was arrested after leaving the room. He was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Two more men, David Irvine Leland, 48, of Sioux Falls and Timothy James Portz of Iowa were arrested after leaving the room. They were charged with hiring for sexual activity.

Detectives spoke with the woman after the men were arrested. She told them Nance and Crayton forced her into prostitution.

With their names and a description of their car, a red 2014 Dodge Charger, detectives were able to find Nance and Crayton near Eighth Street and Minnesota Avenue. They were arrested following a traffic stop.
