GREGORY – A six-month-old puppy is recovering after being found shot with an arrow in southern South Dakota.

According to Rescues Unlimited in Gregory, the chocolate Lab mix was found with an arrow stuck through his body. He was immediately taken to a local veterinarian, and the rescuers were told later his ears also had been cut.

The family who found him has a 4-year-old child who named him Monkey.

Rescues Unlimited will continue his medical care. They say Monkey is a little shy, but one of the calmest pups ever.

This is not the first animal Rescues Unlimited has that has a history of being abused. They currently have a dog who had his eye kicked out, and a small pup that they rescued as a six week old puppy when her back leg was stomped and crushed so bad that she now needs to have her leg amputated. She was too young to be put under for surgery so the veterinarian is waiting until she is older.
