Scooter’s Coffee is coming to the growing retail area of 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

Scooter's plans to open at 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue.

The coffee chain will occupy the north end of a retail center under construction at the main entrance of the Walmart that recently opened.

“This space will be slightly larger than our other sit-down coffee shops. We are planning to include a meeting room in this one,” said Travis Rhoades, the local Scooter’s Coffee franchisee.

This is the sixth location for Scooter’s in the Sioux Falls area.

“We are always striving to make Scooter’s convenient for our customers,” Rhoades said. "With the incredible growth around the 85th & Minnesota area, we think it will be well-received.”

The coffee shop will have Scooter’s most current look, similar to the store that opened last year in Brandon. It features rustic woods, metal, concrete and the chain's signature red color.

The plan is to open this fall.

“I love the visibility Scooter’s will have, perched right up on 85th Street at the Dakota Hawk stoplight, said Ryan Tysdal of Lloyd Cos., who represents Scooter’s Coffee. “We moved quickly to lease that space, as it’s one of the best-positioned in the entire development."

Walmart opened a couple of weeks ago and has been “extremely busy,” Tysdal said.

He also is marketing more available retail space in the area this week at RECON, the annual convention for the International Council of Shopping Centers in Las Vegas.

“It’s great to now see the beginning of an immense amount of retail development that is in the works for that area. We have a lot of exciting things in store. A year from now, you’re not even going to recognize 85th & Minnesota.”
