The Sioux Empire United Way will have a special kickoff for this year’s fundraising campaign.

Legendary rock band Heart will perform Aug. 17 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center – for free.

The event comes courtesy of longtime United Way partners First Premier Bank/Premier Bankcard, the announcement said.

Heart is fronted by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees are known for the hits “Crazy on You,” “Magic Man,” “Barracuda” and “Straight On.”

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., followed by opening band Goodroad at 6:30 and Heart at 7:30.

While admission is free, all of the seating has been reserved. To be added to a waiting list, visit www.seuw.org/startwithheart.

“The purpose of the event is to not only celebrate what we have done together, it is also a great opportunity to invite others who have not participated through United Way to stand with us,” said Paul Sova, board chairperson of Sioux Empire United Way. “The community and its needs are growing fast. We’re going to need everyone’s help as we move forward. It will be a night where we will encourage everyone to #StartWithHeart and take their stand to make a difference in our community.”

The Sioux Empire United Way serves 33 communities. One in three people in the area are directly affected by United Way, with services such as affordable childcare, afterschool services, homeless outreach and services for older adults, the organization said.
