A 2-year-old boy was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries Saturday after falling from a third-floor apartment window.

His mother was in another area of the apartment in the 1300 block of West Sixth Street and had left her four children in the living room watching television when the incident happened, police spokesman Sam Clemens said.

The child's older siblings ages 3, 4 and 6 were supposed to be watching him.

Clemens said the boy climbed onto a table, crawled out the window and onto a ledge before falling 27 feet to the ground.

When emergency units arrived, the child was conscious and breathing and was taken to a hospital.

There was a screen on the window before the boy fell, and Clemens said the siblings just weren't paying attention.

No criminal charges are expected to be filed. Clemens said this serves as a good reminder for parents to make sure their windows are safe for small children.

In April, a Sioux Falls property manager was cited for a safety code violation after a 2-year-old boy took a traumatizing tumble out of a third-story apartment window at the Chasing Willows Apartments. He ended up with a broken upper arm, a dislocated shoulder, and mild liver bleeding.
