A man is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the neck, and the suspect has yet to be arrested after the weekend altercation.

Police were called just after 7 a.m. Saturday to Kings Casino, 721 W. 11th St., where the 34-year-old victim reported the stabbing. An investigation revealed that the altercation had taken place at 409 S. Prairie Ave.

The victim’s girlfriend cooperated with police while he underwent surgery for multiple stab wounds to his neck. Sam Clemens, police spokesman, said the victim and another woman live in the apartment on Prairie Avenue. The suspect is the roommate’s boyfriend.

Clemens said the two men know each other, but the extent of their relationship is unknown.

According to the victim’s girlfriend, the four of them were in the apartment when the suspect walked up to the victim and began stabbing him in the neck, Clemens said. The reason for the fight is unknown, but both men had been drinking. After being stabbed, the victim fled the residence on foot, and his girlfriend followed.

Authorities were called from Kings Casino, and the victim was taken to the hospital. Clemens said the victim remains in critical condition.

The identity of the 33-year-old suspect is known, but police have yet to find and arrest him. Officers visited the apartment where the attack took place, but nobody was home when they arrived.
