Stolen downtown sculpture reinstated Friday

A sculpture stolen from its perch in downtown Sioux Falls will be going back up Friday morning.

"Raven," a birdlike statue by artist Joshua Spendlove, will be restored at 8 a.m. on Friday to its pedestal in front of Minerva's Restaurant on Phillips Avenue, SculptureWalk ambassador Jeff Hanson said.

The sculpture was ripped from its pedestal in the early morning of May 30 and found two days later in Menlo Park. Surveillance cameras revealed that a man had taken the statue and damaged another. The man, 24-year-old Robert W. Mitchell of Sioux Falls, turned himself in this week. Story: Arrest made in SculptureWalk theft, vandalism

The damaged sculpture, "Book Peddlers," was repaired and replaced June 18.
