A Sioux Falls man surrendered to police after a warrant was issued for his arrest in the stabbing of another man.

John Albert Sheffield, 33, turned himself in at the law enforcement center Thursday morning after police issued a $20,000 warrant for his arrest Wednesday.

Sheffield is accused of stabbing a 34-year-old man in the neck March 7, leaving him in critical condition.

The victim reported the stabbing that morning at Kings Casino, 721 W. 11th St. Police said the altercation had happened earlier in an apartment at 409 S. Prairie Ave., where both men had been drinking.

Police spokesman Sam Clemens said the victim’s condition has improved and that he did not know if the man was still hospitalized.

Sheffield will appear in court Friday afternoon on an aggravated assault charge.
