Parents: Are you worried about Head Start?

Fewer preschool students in South Dakota would receive services under proposed changes to the national Head Start program, say officials for the state branch.

Because there is no state support for preschool, most South Dakota children depend on private groups or federal Head Start funding to prepare for kindergarten.

However, national officials have announced a plan to switch to full-day programming. Moving from half-day to full-day preschool could force Sioux Falls and South Dakota centers to reduce enrollments unless extra funding comes with the change.

State leaders were worried enough to draft a letter (below) and send it to the national office, expressing their concern.

Any parents out there who depend on Head Start: Any thoughts on the potential switch to full-day preschool?
