Dem drinking group quits bar for sexual insensitivity

A liberal drinking club is leaving Wiley's in downtown because some members object to sexual insensitive advertising.

Drinking Liberally, a Democratic group that often gets together on Fridays for adult beverages and political talk, is moving from Wiley's to 18

th

Amendment starting this Friday. The reason for the move is because of "sexual insensitivity" regarding some of the promotional materials at Wiley's.

I asked Sheldon Osborn, one of the hosts, to clarify.

"The women were complaining about some of the videos they have on their TVs around," he said. "I've never noticed them other than to enjoy them."

Wiley's was also promoting a lingerie night, although Osborn was quick to point out that lingerie night was not taking place on the same evening as Drinking Liberally was meeting.

So Wiley's and its sexual insensitivity are history. On to the 18th Amendment.

Here's the entire invite:

I must apologize for not holding a meeting for some time but life intervened. And, after fielding a number of complaints about the noise and the sexual insensitivity of some of the promotions at Wiley's (our now former Downtown location) we have decided to move our regular venue to the "18th Amendment" at 1301 W. 41st Street. So beginning today, Friday March 6th, you are invited to join our merry crew at the "18th Amendment" beginning at 5:00 PM 'til whenever. They have "2fers" until 7:00 PM and the food is good. Mel and Lu Thaler, two of the mainstays of our crew, have given our new venue a "like" on its Facebook page so it comes well recommended.
So join us as we skewer our conservative opposition and discuss what brilliant strategy the Democratic leadership may have up their sleeve to win elections and move the voters of our County and State toward the progressive policies of tolerance, inclusion, economic growth, decent jobs, and equal opportunity that we all support. Despite all of our efforts, we haven't had good results lately. Perhaps it is time for something completely different.
I will drink to that. Bring me a shot.
And remember, don't let our name or bravado mislead you. We drink conservatively from 5:00 to 5:08, moderately 'til 5:15 and liberally to whenever. But, if you stay for karaoke, you may have stayed too long. And, of course, as the Beer and Alcohol Companies encourage, we always drink responsibly.
Location: The "18th Amendment" on 41st St in Sioux Falls.
When: 5:00 PM (almost) every Friday, Until: Whenever.
